What is the difference between laser vaporization cutting and laser fusion cutting?

Superwave Laser Technology Co.,Ltd | Updated: Jan 26, 2019

With the continuous development of the storage tank industry at present, more and more industries and enterprises apply laser cutting to the storage tank industry, and more and more enterprises enter the storage tank industry. However, as the cost of subsequent processing is reduced, it is feasible to use this equipment in mass production.
Laser cutting can be divided into four categories: laser vaporization cutting, laser melting cutting, laser oxygen cutting, laser scribing and control fracture.
Laser vaporization cutting
The high energy density laser beam is used to heat the workpiece, so that the temperature rises rapidly and reaches the boiling point of the material in a very short time. And these vapors are coming out at a very high rate, and as they're coming out, they're making a cut in the material. The heat of vaporization of materials is generally very large, so laser vaporization cutting requires a lot of power and power density.
Laser vaporization cutting is mainly used for cutting extremely thin metallic materials and non-metallic materials (such as paper, cloth, wood, plastic and rubber, etc.).
Laser fusion cutting
During laser melting and cutting, metal materials are melted by laser heating, and then non-oxidized gases (Ar, He, N, etc. Laser fusion cutting does not require complete vaporization of the metal, requiring only 1/10 of the energy of vaporization cutting.
Laser melting cutting is mainly used for cutting some non-oxidizable materials or active metals, such as stainless steel, titanium, aluminum and their alloys.
Laser oxygen cutting
The principle of laser oxygen cutting is similar to that of oxyacetylene cutting. It USES laser as the preheating heat source and oxygen and other active gases as the cutting gas. On the one hand, the ejected gas interacts with the cutting metal and produces an oxidation reaction, giving off a large amount of heat of oxidation. On the other hand, molten oxides and melts are blown out of the reaction zone to form a cut in the metal. Due to the large amount of heat generated by the oxidation reaction in the cutting process, the energy required for laser oxygen cutting is only 1/2 of the melting cutting, and the cutting speed is much higher than that of laser vaporization cutting and melting cutting.
Laser oxygen cutting is mainly used in carbon steel, titanium steel and heat treatment steel and other easily oxidized metal materials.
Laser scribing and fracture control
Laser scribing is to scan the surface of brittle material with high energy density laser, make the material evaporate out of a small groove under heat, and then apply certain pressure, the brittle material will crack along the small groove. Q switch laser and CO2 laser are commonly used for laser scribing.
Controlled fracture is the use of laser groove when the steep temperature distribution, the brittle material in the local thermal stress, so that the material along the small groove break.
