Argon arc welding

Argon arc welding is a kind of arc welding, which is used to weld the arc of gas that is emitted by welding torch nozzle. Argon arc welding is a commonly used method, which can be applied to most major metals including carbon steel and alloy steel. Inert gas shielded arc welding is suitable for the molten stainless steel, aluminum, magnesium, copper, titanium, zirconium, and nickel alloy, because of the low price, is widely used in mold repair welding, the welding heat affected area is big, solder joints such as faults, at present in the aspect of precision mold repair has been gradually replaced by the laser welding.  

Laser welding

Laser welding is a kind of high-energy beam welding. Laser welding is the welding of laser beam with high power coherent monochromatic photon flow focusing on the heat source. This welding method usually has continuous power laser welding and pulse power laser welding. The advantage of laser welding is that it does not need to be carried out in vacuum. The disadvantage is that the penetration is not as strong as the electron beam welding. Laser welding can carry out precise energy control so that precision components can be welded. It can be applied to many metals, especially soldering of some difficult metals and other metals. The current model has been used in mold repair.  

The main difference when fixing molds

The use of gas, electrode consumption and protection are commonly used to welding thin workpiece, but the welding speed is slow, a lot larger than laser welding, and heat input are prone to deformation, the characteristics of the laser weld heat affected zone is small, narrower welds, weld cooling faster, weld metal properties change little, weld hard.  

The welding of precision mould is different from other parts. It is very strict in quality control, and the repair cycle of the workpiece must be as short as possible. Traditional argon welding heat affected zone is big, the welding caused the collapse, the surrounding deformation such as probability is very high, the high accuracy, large welding area of the mold, must go through heat preheating, welding, under the certain temperature annealing treatment and natural cooling, even down to cost and time cannot be accepted by users; However, cold welding has defects such as weak welding and weak welding. However, laser welding has no shortage of argon welding and cold welding, so it is widely used.
